RESEARCH - Analysis of title sequences

There are variations but down below is an example of the conventional order in which you will often see titles in an opening appear.
  1. Production company ident
  2. Distribution company ident
  3. Distributor and/or production company title
  4. Actor (star)
  5. Actor (star)
  6. Film title
  7. Actor
  8. Actor
  9. Casting
  10. Costume
  11. Music supervisor
  12. Music by
  13. Edited by
  14. Production designer
  15. Director of photography (cinematography)
  16. Executive producer
  17. Written by
  18. Director
There is such a strict order in which names and jobs appear because every film aims for recognition and box office success. Therefore, the film has to be sold and in order to do that, the actors/directors with the most credit appear first.

This is because they are most likely to draw attention as they may have a bigger fan-base compared to the more minor actors. A bigger fan-base = more tickets purchased = more revenue = box office success and awards! Those that are not shown during the title sequence are usually shown at the end, during the credits.
