In order for a film to be a success, you need an audience that are willing and ready to pay to view it. An audience is what actually makes or breaks a film and its ratings therefore the director and producer would have to take them into great consideration when filming and ensure that the end product is what they would kill to see. Having a good opening to the film is one way in assuring the audience that their money has not gone to waste and that their preferences have been considered.
The target audience for thriller films in particular is usually 15+ but can sometimes vary. This is because some sub-genres found in thrillers may include violence, psychological issues and other things which some younger viewers may find offensive or disturbing. There are usually warnings on the promotional poster, trailer and also the DVD cover which states why it has the following rating e.g. contains sexual scenes.
When creating our thriller film, we will be taking our target audience into careful consideration and will be sure to include suitable content that viewers will not find offensive.
