Thriller - Film Audience
Target Audiences are very important to take into account before constructing any kind of film. The Target Audience are the set of people that can determine the success of a movie. If not constructed carefully to meet the needs of the target audience, the movie could cause to become unpopular and fail. However satisfying the target audience would be fundamental, and could turn the movie into a blockbuster success.
Producers must understand how they can appeal to their selected target audience and what scenes and shots would be suitable. Thriller movies often tend to be targeted at a mature target audience and can have minimum age ratings from 12 to 18+. These ratings help to guide the producers to a set of generic codes they will be able to use in their films. Films which would be likely to appeal to an age group between 12-17 will then be unlikely to contain many sex scenes or excessive amounts of swearing in order to keep the age rating low. They must however still take into account that those over the age of 18 may also want to be part of the audience the thriller is trying to reach out to, so must work carefully in order to balance out the satisfaction among the different age groups. Thriller movies also usually can contain gory scenes and scenes which would be unsuitable for children. For this reason, producers can ignore the requirements for reaching to a younger target audience and could have access to a wider range of generic codes. Taking that into account, in any film Producers must ensure that they do not overlook the limits of a Thriller film and attempt to scar their audience for life. Although the film may intend to scare the audience, the way the film is constructed must be in a way that attracts them and keeps the audience interested throughout.
