Planning - Costume + Props

Planning - Costume & Props

We had a long thought about different costumes and props we could use. To save money, we first spoke about what props we already had that could be used. This discussion allowed us to discover many items within our homes and own possessions that could fit into the thriller opening. The main four props we neede were candles, broken pens, a car and a diary. All these were easily obtained. Alin brought a candle from her home. I brought a broken pen and David got permission from his dad to use his car for our opening. The diary was a also lent to us by Davids mum. As for costume, we intend to ask the UCL Hospital to lend us a hospital gown for Edvardas to wear, in order to show that he is a hospital patient (mental hospital). If we cannot get the gown, we have decided to let Edvardas wear casual clothing in the scene, but a jacket with a hood with me necessarily in order to make him seem threatening.

Costume and props are very important aspects to our thriller opening. Good props will help with the mise en scene and can make our thriller opening make much more sense. It also looks better to have relevant props that could be used for effect. Costume is also very important in setting the mood and allows the viewer to create suggestions regarding a characters personality. Costume is very important, especially for our main character, as you cannot see his face so we wish that his clothing represents his behavior and the personality that we are trying to establish.
