PLANNING - First ideas

STORYLINE

After discussing many ideas and plots for our thriller opening, we eventually settled for this idea:
A man who suffers from Psychosis has just escaped from a mental hospital. He has an urge to kill people and he already has plans for his next victim in which he writes about in his "diary." The victim is a woman who discovers she is being stalked and the titles will be superimposed on each page of the man's diary, with a narrative playing throughout.

CAMERA

We will aim to include various types of shots to keep our opening interesting and unpredictable. Shots such as:
- POV shots
- Establishing shots
- Wide shots
- MSs
- CUs
- ECUs
- Over the shoulder shots
- Etc.

EDITING

This is important when trying to create suspense in a film, therefore we will aim to include the following to create a suspenseful atmosphere:
- Fast cuts
- Superimposed/inter-cut titles
- Unconventional text font for titles

SOUND

For our opening we decided to use a narrative to create suspense rather than diegetic sounds. The narrative will aim to appear as the man's thoughts when he is writing in the diary. However, we may also add slightly muted down background music.

MISE EN SCENE - PROPS

The props will help illustrate our story and we will use the following:
- Hospital clothing/raggy clothes
- Diary
- A candle
- Dim lighting
- A car
- Broken pen

MISE EN SCENE - LOCATION

The location is one of the most important elements of a scene. We will aim to use the following for our shots and scenes:
- Hospital entrance
- Dark room/house
- Car park (during night time)
