'Collateral' Remake
Once we had the training on how to use the JVC camera, we had to go and put into practise what we had learnt in the tutorial. In order to do this, me and my colleagues went to Angel Shopping Centre and we decided to make a remake of the clip from 'Collateral' that we were assinged . Before we went out to shoot the remake, we had to make a story board as a group in order for us to know the kind of different shots that we had to take and to also understand the order of the entire clip.
We were given all the necessary equipment that we needed in order to shoot the remake. This included: the camera and the tripod, both in their bags, the light and also a microphone attached to the camera. Afterwards, we went to shoot it. As we were doing it, we had to deal with issues like street noise and also with the lighting because the light that the college department gave us didn't produce enough light. On the other hand, it was simple to shoot it because we didn't have to record from different angles.
Compared to the original clip, out clip is quite similar because of the way we got into the character. Also, I think when the bags dropped, it looks very similar to the original clip because we used a match cut in order to focus on the importance of the bags. On the other hand, during the editing, we noticed that at the end of the original clip there was music which added tension to the scene. We included a sound which is similar in order to make our clip thrilling. Furthermore, like in the original clip, we focused on the parts which were in slow motion, like in the beginning of the clip. Also, when the bags drop, the slow motion technique is used again to create tension. Unfortunately, we forgot to bring the shades as a prop so we had to improvise so its clear which character is which.
I think that even though we had some problems which the camera zooming the remake is good to watch and its also understandable as it clearly displays the story like the original clip of 'Collateral'.
