Genre and Sub-genre
Genre is the type of composition something is. In this case, with movies, there are many different genres that we come across with today. The genre of a movie plays a big role in the film industry because it's the base of everything. For example, genre is important for producers because it allows them to use a set of generic codes to make the film (props, location, time, actors, etc.) which can be re-used for other different movies. Also, it gives them a rough idea on how much they will have to invest due to amount of work that needs to be put into different types of genre. On the other hand, the type of genre is also important for marketing purposes because they can target the audience more precisely. They know which type of marketing techniques to use such as advertisements or trailers as they would be focused on an specific audience that will watch that type of movie. Most importantly, knowing the genre gives the audience a clear set of what to expect from the movie and it makes them intrigued about it.
Sub-genres give a more clear view of an specific type of genre. In my case, there's a variety of thrilling sub-genres that gives us a more clear understanding of how a thriller should be laid out. Some types of thriller sub-genres are: conspiracy, crime, disaster, mystery, political, psychological, religious, supernatural and techno. For example, a sub-genre that I would say really intrigues me and inspires me is religious. Religious thrillers such as 'The Omen' have a certain amount of tension that really stimulates my curiosity into doubting if the stories in which they are based upon are real or not. Watching these kind of movies make me not only scared but also anxious to find out if the things that happen in those kind of movies are real or not. I think the kind of transitions from one scene to the other would be good in my thriller opening because it will create tension as well as giving that effect of a story being told. Furthermore, the sound is a must when it comes to my thriller opening as well because as you can see in the trailer, the sound is what makes it thrilling and builds up tension making the audience want to watch the movie a soon as it comes out.
