Genre
A genre is a style or type of many things, including films. The most common ones are; action, comedy, romance. Genre is important when making a film, because each genre has its own set of specific needs, for example comedy has to be funny and horror has to be scary. This helps the film makers create a film of a specific genre so the audience that likes that genre will watch the film. That's why I think there are so many action films being released, because that genre is most popular so the film makers think that they will make most profit by making an action film.
Sub-Genre
A sub-genre is subcategory of a particular genre. An example would be: Thriller is a genre, it's the main genre of a particular film, but the film also gets a sub-genre, there are many sub-genres for thrillers, here is a list of some:
- Crime
- Disaster
- Mystery
- Supernatural
- Techno
I like all of the above listed sub-genres of a thriller, but my favourite of them is Disaster. I really like those sort of films like 'The Day After Tomorrow' and '2012'.
The Day After Tomorrow Trailer
There is a part in the film where people are trapped inside a library and they have to burn books so they don't freeze, that part really inspires me, seeing what people would do in such situations, would they really burn all the books, the history, to survive? We could do something like that in our own film.
